I will be perfectly honest. I had every intention of this being a random drawing. But this… Wow. This blew me away. And the Cotton Husband too. He got up from reading all of the comments just yesterday and said, “I think I know who gets the Dirt.”
Here is Cheryl’s favorite smell
Maybe this is a little weird since I’m 50+ years old and a grandma, but my favorite smell, and one that’s stayed with me most of my life, is the smell of my mother’s hands when she cupped my chin to brush my hair for school. Back in those days, everybody cleaned with bleach and with pine cleaners – and my mom was a stickler! Every morning I’d get a huge whiff of bleach and maybe some cinnamon or coffee or dough smells mixed in – made me know all was right with my world. I’d give a lot to smell it again!
This wrings my heart every time I read it. Thank you so much for writing and sharing that memory, Cheryl. I only wish there were some way to replicate that scent for you. Very worthy of the win! My mom died at age 49 so I treasure all of my memories and this one of Cheryl’s really tugged at my heartstrings. Enjoy Cheryl, and let us others know what “dirt” smells like out of a bottle!

Hi everyone. My name is Jarett, and I am Cheryl’s son. She linked me to this page to show me the contest she had won, and how excited she was that she did so.
I wanted to relay one of my favorite smells, since it is similar to my mom’s.
My favorite smell from when I was a kid (seems so long ago sometimes at age 31), was an odd mixture of bleach, Lemon Pledge, and the different smells of my mom’s chicken and sausage gumbo cooking in the kitchen on a Saturday afternoon. My mom’s gumbo made everything better, even to this day. My ultimate “comfort food”.
