  • Welcome!

I'm a farm wife, a mama and a photographer living in Virginia.

My camera is typically filled with images of sunrises, dusty fields, even dustier children and whatever we happen to be planting or harvesting at the time.

    Thanks for visiting the farm!

A New Season. Warning: Don’t Eat While Viewing. Also… It’s Not Really Two-Headed. It Just Looks That Way.

It’s almost the New Year and with that comes the welcome thought that this is almost finished for the season:

You were eating anyway, weren’t you? Even after I told you not to? It’s ok. If you were eating, just pretend they are sleeping like my friend Kate did.

This is my favorite time of year. Hunting season is out and planting season has not yet begun. This means… HOUSEHOLD REPAIRS for The Cotton Husband. I thought about making a list of things that have accumulated throughout the year (you know, just to be helpful) but then I realized I’ve never owned that much paper at one time.

What about you? Is there a “Household Repair” season in your home? Is it all year long as-needed or is it honey-just-call-someone-because-I-will-never-do-this? Or are you like me and get frustrated and attempt to do it by yourself (and then get fussed at)?

I made the blog! Woo hoo. It was very nice of Keith to let the deer take a nap in the back of his truck. Yeah. Uh huh.

We have had some outside lights that have not worked in YEARS, yet I got the frowny look when I told Marc that I had hired an electrician. Seriously, the light that is supposed to shine on the driveway has never worked in 6 years. I don’t think that it is ostentatious to call a professional. *eye roll*

Yes, household repair season is 24-7 around here!

No fair, Klutzymama!

I made the honey-do list one year thinking that would give Jay the nudge he needed to get the projects I needed help with done. Wrong, don’t make plans or a list for a man and think it will happen!!

I don’t even bother to ask or suggest; just do it myself. I don’t like waiting on other people to “get around to it”. Guess that is why I never sit down and everyone else is always resting!! After 25 years I know I’m not being heard anyway :}

Kat I hear you. I usually do it myself unless it’s something he has to do. Like change the drain on the tub. I waited over a year for it to get done. I never said a word just kept using his shower.

I just love those pictures! You know… I used to visit your blog and look at those pictures with such envy. Now, I have an 8 month old baby boy, and 8 year old girl, a 7 year old boy, and 5 year old girl. Can you believe it??

Now, to show these pictures to Josh — I want him to kill me a deer and stock my freezer, dadgumit.

Blessings!

Loved the pictures of your little one w/the deer.
My 2 yr. old granddaughter “helps” her dad arrange the ducks he brings home so they can take pictures.
They posted one of my sweet little Mia in a velour track suit, pink bow in her hair – holding a duck head! Too bad she doesn’t have any dolls to play with!

Our household repair time is a very small window. It lasts from Christmas day to New Years. And heaven help us if we have company, ’cause everyone knows you can’t fix something in the house when company’s here! I will say that Checkered did install a new floor in the living room this year and it is beautiful. I now have an entire year to dream about his next project.
……..
I’m glad you’re getting your name out there for photography. I am always amazed at how beautiful your shots are. You even make mayo look wonderful :)

Oh no not a dead deer! Here in the burbs we’re a few streets away from the Provincial park (like a State park in the US!) There the deer roam free and are hunter proof! When the snow gets bad (like now ugh!) they often wander up to our neighbourhood to nibble on our trees. I love to see them! Alive that is LOL!

Hmmm my husband is always home for the two weeks over christmas when he is “supposed” to catch up on those jobs. Hope you had better luck than I did!

Happy New Year!
