Right now, all of my friends and neighbors are feverishly praying for snow. It’s become a rare occurance for our little corner of Eastern Virginia so any indication of snow is cause for a raid on the grocery store and a spate of school closings.
Last night was really lookin’ like snow. It was as if a gauze had fallen over everything.
I was expecting to wake up today to a perfect white ground, but no such luck.
However, reports are still indicating a significant snowfall so all of us who aren’t in Wyoming or North Dakota or Pennsylvania are crossing our fingers and wishing for snow.
Because this shot would be so much better with snow coming down…

We were hoping for snow this morning as well, but we didn’t get it either. And now the sun is shining.
Great pictures.
I love the feeling of anticipation that comes right before a snowstorm too. Stocking up at the store, finding a good book to read, making cocoa, etc. I’m so bummed when it doesn’t amount to anything. Here in Kansas sometimes we get lots of snow and sometimes nothing. In January snowfall is about the only excitement there is!!
I wish it would snow here in Kansas. We need it so badly for our winter wheat. But at this point any type of moisture would be great.
I am in Tamps, Fl. and the weatherman is saying maybe snow here tonight but in the 70′s by Thurs. The citrus is blooming and if it gets that cold we will have some real damage. I hope the snow stays north of us and it will b e a little warmer than expected.
Oh yeah, major disappointment for some of us. I just love the “quiet” when it snows; it amazes me how everything seems to hold its breath and all sounds cease. I wish my boys could experience the snows we used to have here – maybe next year.
I hope you all woke up wrapped in a thick layer of whiteness!!! You sound like us on Christmas Eve if we hadnt had a snow yet!!!
I also think that if its to be cold out the kids may as well have something to “play” in. Bring on the snow…jus leave out the wind and frigid temps.
Nope… not even an inch of snow. Nuthin’.
I think the grown-ups might be more disappointed than the kids. There’s a buncha whining going on at Facebook right now!

Sigh. We were anticipating snow as well. Although, this is the 3rd time this season that our beloved forecaster has promised a “dusting” or “a half inch or so” and what have we gotten?
Nothing.
The kids and I are a hair’s breath from going to the news station and holding him ransom till he delivers on his promise of snow.
Well, at least till they get cabin fever and I’m ready to ship them back to school.
Still Snow Watching in Richmond.
When you do get snow, don’t forget to make Snow Ice Cream. I had a guest post over at
http://mywoodenspoon.com/2009/01/21/homemade-snow-ice-cream/
where you can see my youngest making it.
INGREDIENTS:
* 2 qt.clean snow
* 1/2 C milk
* 1/4 C sugar
* 1 tsp vanilla
DIRECTIONS
Mix together and enjoy. We only have skim milk. I think whole milk would make it creamier.
Some ladies said they add an egg. I’ll have to try that next time.

Whole milk or…. heavy cream. Mmmm. I have a serious addiction to the stuff.
I’ve been known to make snow cream in a cereal bowl before because that’s all the snow I could gather. No matter – I had SNOW CREAM.

Thanks for the recipe, Judi!
I agree , that picture would be really pretty with snow falling in it !
