Where’s Your Getaway?

maggie2

Our pond weren’t built for no havin’ fun. It was built purely for farm use – for irrigation.

girls22

Nope – no fun to be had here.  No siree. This is a working pond.

girls25

Try telling that to my little waterbugs.

Our pond is perfect. It’s not at our house… so no curious little feet can wander over to it. Keith built it across the road, over at the Warthan Homeplace, which – really – was brilliant and not just for safety reasons.

There’s no phone. There’s no email inbox beckoning me. There’s no stove, no washing machine, the perpetually messy house is outta sight.

All we have to do is take a long walk (or a short drive) and we’re instantly On Vacation. Even if just for a little while.

Best of all – there’s no luggage to unpack!

Where is your favorite getaway?

Prepping the Fields

field1

While this field sure is pretty, all of those weeds won’t do the corn any favors. They’ll suck up all of the nutrients and moisture and the poor, poor corn will struggle to grow.

corn3

This is the “look” we want. We want those weeds to be scarcer than hen’s teeth.

corn2

That’s where this comes in. We get our chemical/seed/fertilizer people (small town people multitask real well)  to come out and spray those weeds bye-bye.

And then the itty-bitty corn has the field all to itself.

I’m hoping in the next few weeks it won’t be so itty-bitty. I’ll keep you updated!

Things Are Different In The Country

I know that city-folk take their clients golfing to close a big sale…

cotton2

Is going turkey hunting before unloading cotton seed the country equivalent?
