This is the first year that the Cotton Husband and I have been in charge of the farm’s garden.
You might think that as a farm wife, I have a green thumb.
You might want to re-think that.
I don’t have a black thumb exactly – I just don’t really um…apply myself when dealing with flowers or gardens. Boy, if my Mama had a nickle for every time a teacher told her I didn’t apply myself…
Things are about to get real interesting once this garden is planted. Just to give you some idea – here is the actual Garden Planning Conversation.
“Sugar, where do you want your garden” (Notice his use of the word “YOUR”)
“Well, it needs to be near the house so I can take care of it.”
“If it’s at the house you have to take EXTRA good care of it.”
“I can’t take care of it if it’s not at the house. Also, I want the irrigation to hit it so I don’t have to water it.”
” ::Sigh:: I can see how this is going to turn out already. Ok, but if it’s at the house you REALLY have to take care of it.”
“I will. But I am telling you that if it isn’t near the house, I can’t take care of it!”
It was like that old Laurel and Hardy routine, Who’s on First, except with Sweetpea in the background yelling, “I WANT TO PLANT GRASS!!!”
Not a problem, Darlin’, not a problem. I think you’ll get your wish.

You can do this!!!
Hint: gather up LOTS of grass clippings Best weed control I have ever found!!!
We put a soaker hose around the plants, cover the garden with black plastic then scatter straw over the plastic and no weeding!!!! Very low maintenance.
Can’t wait for the garden updates…my advice recruit your little helpers. My parents used to have a 2 acre garden. I remember pulling a lot of weeds!
Good luck with your garden. I’m getting ready to plant my first garden and I can totally sympathize with ya, girl! If only I had an irrigation system nearby to water it for me!!!
Question: How did you get those perfect mounds using a disc?
I’d kill for a garden that size, or it would kill me. not sure which.
Carrie,
He also used a bedder to get it looking like that.
Shirley, I hear ya. I hear ya.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bedder. I’m always up for learning new things about farming.
Can’t wait to see how this garden grows for you!!!
Not fair, he has equipment to tend his “big garden fields”. Your garden (and I speak from A LOT of experience) takes *man-ual* labor; Note the first part of that word. Seems like you are growing children just fine – just pretend it still isn’t close enough to the house!
ok
Oh… I can just see it now: you’ll be so hooked. You’ll need that macro lens for close-ups of dew on young corn and tomatoes. You’ll get shots of your kids surrounded by sunflowers and knee-deep in potatoes. It’ll be grand and you’ll love every minute.
We will too!

“Your” garden? Yeah, it’ll be “yours” until he wants something out of it. Men. They’re all alike. LOL. I found the perfect garden – maintenace free:

You’ll want to revisit my website today.
I love how you guys have been reading long enough so that a cemetery in my backyard is just commonplace now.

Jennifer — I need your mailing address. I can’t buy your gift until I know where to ship it to.
Love your pick, btw. VERY cute!
