Two Sisters

If I ask Shelby to pose, she’ll generally go along. Even with a chocolate face. She’s agreeable like that.

However, if Maggie isn’t in the right mood… well, I get a look like this. With the attitude to match. I think when she’s a teenager I will be happy that she’s not so agreeable to everything. There’s got to be some upside to this, right?

Third Post In Three Days

I have a three week old and a teething baby. Maybe a lack of sleep becomes me? I am certainly accomplishing far more than I did when I was pregnant – blog updates included!

Jenn at I Hate Whine asked for photos of a cotton field in bloom and since the field is right at my front door, it was easy to comply.

The blooms are there, no doubt about it. But they tend to hide in the large green leaves and they just don’t show up all that well in my photographs for some reason. There are so many more that you can’t see, scattered all through the field.

One thing is for sure though – when all that fruit opens up, you’ll be able to see it.

Lately it’s the closest thing we get to snow in Virginia.

Hellooooo… Rhode Island Reds!!

12

Birthdays in the country mean that you get something like this for a present.

One of our very good friends – and neighbor – brought us six of these Rhode Island Reds this past weekend.  We’d told him how many eggs we go through in a week and mentioned that if he came across some chicks, we’d like to have them.

He done good. He done real good. ;)

We’re building their nests in the red barn… in one of the horse stalls. Because those horse stalls will never, ever be used for horses again. Unless we win the lottery and can pay someone else to care for them constantly.

We have so much space in our yard that the chicks will free-range when they aren’t nesting. This should fit in nicely with all of the free-range children we have out here. I’ll keep you updated on how that’s working out.
