… is what I smelled like Saturday night.
A short but breathtaking drive landed me in the middle of our yearly hunt club party.
This ain’t no country club. For sure.
It’s a small hunt club of farmers. My husband has been treasurer since about the age of twelve. So that tells you a lot right there.
Every year they have a supper to show their appreciation to the neighbors and friends who put up with their shenanigans for six weeks out of the year.
You won’t find a better mix of people
or better food
or more free-flowing refreshments anywhere.
The red plastic cups are abundant in this club.
Did I mention the music?
I always have to mention the music. I’m nuts about live music of any kind.
And live bluegrass music is where it’s at.
Those expressions!
What’s not to love about a form of music in which the tuning up is just as entertaining as the song itself?

What the CH doesn’t sing or strum a banjo? Oh and when you move to Kansas bring your whole family! lol
Oh I love this, and it makes me so nostalgic. My dad was an avid hunter and played in a little band all of my life until he passed away 5 years ago. We attended many, many gatherings just like this one, you can’t beat it.
Thanks for the post.
What and no picture of you smoking a cigarette? That’s what I was hoping for when I read the title! Just Joshin’. Looks like fun. I think you and me could be bluegrass buddies.
I wouldn’t know how to smoke one if I tried!
We can definitely be bluegrass buddies, Mary!
It ain’t a party til somebody breaks out the red Solo cups!
Love me some Bluegrass.
Sounds like a fun time to me.
I sure miss those days!
But how do you “smell” like bluegrass? tee hee
Ah I’d love to just sit in the corner and have a listen, good times for sure.
Oh, that looks like so much fun!!! I love blugrass music!
I’ve been to country clubs, and what you’ve got is a whole heck of a lot more fun! I would adore the music, like the venison and whatever’s in those red cups, but my allergies can’t take the cigarette smoke…
Loved your post on the hunt club functtions. It reminds me of the time Wayne invited me to a hunt club supper when we were dating, and I went to town to buy a new outfit for it! Little did I know!
Love it — recognize some faces that I had not seen in years – thanks for sharing. U don’t get any better than those dedicated friendships – bound by years, laughter and fun!
And just what was in your daughter’s cup!!!??? Sorry I had to miss this event. I’m sure it was enjoyed by all.
Love you!
What a great way to spend a Saturday night! I just love Live Bluegrass music, there is nothing like it.
Send those men to the deep south the first weekend in October to our Ol’Time Fiddlers Convention held on the grounds of Athens State University. (Alabama) One of my most favorite times of the year! People jammin under the trees, clogging contest, craft show, and a fiddle play off. Excellent musicans from across the country! Bluegrass at its best.
Love it! I bet you had a wonderful time! Plus, that first picture is just gorgeous … I miss VA so much!
Sounds and looks like alot of fun….other than the headache that I would get from the smoke.
How much snow are you forecasted to get in this latest storm? Enjoy it.
I LOVELOVELOVE bluegrass. I also love clubs with red plastic cups and cute toddlers. But most of all, I love when you have snow and we don’t.
The first photo took my breath away. Phenomenal!
I love live music too.
my ears would’ve liked to have been there. Cool shots how fun what an eccentric collection!!!
Oh, how I loved showing this to Joshua (my husband). He looked at the pictures happily and said, “That’s exactly what I want to be part of when I retire from the military!”
…and there is nothing like a hunt club to help out one of their own in need.
Got a CD?!?!?! Oh how I love bluegrass and good ole gatherings like this!
I think you and I would be become great friends! Our Hubs both hunt and I LOVE Bluegrass music and baking:) I think I actually don’t live too far from you:)
