I work really, really hard to be the best photographer I can be and to capture little smiles from babies and big grins from children and loving moments between their parents.
I’m not above blowing raspberries OR asking people who are almost strangers to me to kiss. I know I’m weird, it’s ok.
To my utter happiness, these tactics work and my clients are usually thrilled with their images. As many of you know I’m here… and I have my gallery page… and I’m all over Facebook pretty much any time night or day. All of that adds up to a LOT of feedback from clients, friends and Facebook “fans”. And it’s NICE. I feel like the most appreciated person in the world and those of you who are moms know that sometimes appreciation can be hard to come by. I won’t even try to lie… getting a compliment on a photograph thrills me. I mean, who isn’t happy having their work complimented?
But still the best compliment to date has come from the owner of the store where I bought our house paint. He was crazy about my photographs. Loved them. Said he could tell right away I was a pro. He raved about my camera and my skills.
Would you like to see the photographs he was talking about?
Are you sure you’re ready?
Ok, hold on to your hats….

It doesn’t get much better than that, folks.
Years of studying, practicing and putting tips and lessons into use – it’s all led up to this.
But really, I was probably more flattered than ever because – wow – if I can take a picture of gross, flaky, scraped off paint and make it look professional, then the SKY IS THE LIMIT, right?
Um, right?

You got me on this one J! Normally I sit & boo hoo over your posts and pics and stories so today I thought – I’ve got this….tissue in hand on stand-by.
What I wasnt prepared for what to laugh out loud so hard that I spit my Mountain Dew all over my new wireless keyboard. Oh well – I guess the tissue came in handy after all!
I’m so excited for my sister to spend some time with you August….well maybe jealous is a better description, but hey happy is a good cover!
I love it Jennifer. Too funny!! But that’s the way it goes right!!!
It is the same way at the end of shooting a wedding when people come up to you and pat you on the back and say what a great job you did. I try to say “Thank you!” before my mind takes over my mouth and makes it say, “You, haven’t seen my pictures yet. Maybe I shot the entire wedding without a card in the camera (that would never happen because the camera is smarter than that), maybe my batteries died 2 hours ago, maybe I did not take one picture of the mother-in-law, maybe I had the wrong settings, maybe I hit erase by accident or all of the full cards fell out of my shoulder bag as I was bumped in the throng of men excited to catch the garter (well, that hardly ever happens), maybe bubble juice coated my lens, or maybe I missed the bride throwing the bouquet. Thank goodness I have learned to jsut say “Thank You”.
Hahahaha, we take what we can get, right?
But you are right, if you can make old paint look good….the sky’s the limit!
The guy could tell he was going to make a big sale on outdoor house paint! I suppose now you’re going to keep us in suspense over who won in the color decision…
All that aside, you know I love your photography!
I have to say I agree with him. I really like those pictures. They say country to me.
and you had a pic on pioneer woman!!! it was goooorgeous!
Loved your article, and your flaky paint. I feel the same way about my writing that you feel about your photography. I have been really depressed lately after getting 3 rejections in a row. One friend sends me a compliment on FB and I’m ready to go again. Praise works wonders!
Yes, he’s definately in touch with his “shabby chic” side… Did he immediately know which color white this was?!?!
I like the way you captured the texture of the paint and wood. My mind is telling me to be careful if I were to rub my fingertips over the image as I may get a splinter.
Yes it is! Congratulations on making the finals on PW!!
