  • Welcome!

I'm a farm wife, a mama and a photographer living in Virginia.

My camera is typically filled with images of sunrises, dusty fields, even dustier children and whatever we happen to be planting or harvesting at the time.

    Thanks for visiting the farm!

Critters

s4

When we built these drawers, I worried a little about critters.

There aren’t any tops at all on the drawers, so while the flour is loose I leave the sugar in the bag. I feel like it’s pretty safe that way… no bugs can get in.

Imagine my surprise when I went to get the sugar today …

It seems like I have at least two little girls who have figured out that I don’t check the brown sugar on a regular basis.

Oh… I can’t wait to catch ‘em in the act!:)

Oh how I love brown sugar!! I use to eat it right out of the bag too ;)

**snicker**
I used to do that, too.

My oldest daughter learned her lesson when she snuck into the cocoa powder. She took a whole mouthful of it. I wondered what the dark brown stuff running down the side of the garbage can was for awhile until I figured out what she had done. I had to stifle a giggle when I asked her about it. I asked how she liked it. She replied that she thought it was disgusting. She won’t be trying that again. She has also disovered that she doesn’t care for vanilla either. I love natual-consequence learning! :)

No homemade chocolate chip cookies for them if they eat all the sugar! My grandkids do the same thing to my daughter… and if it’s not edible, they’re dumping it on the floor and mixing it together to see what concoction they come up with. The things 3 year-old twins get into!

Good thing you didn’t put your chocolate chips in there… lol
Doesn’t vanilla smell so yummy?!?! I tasted it once, took a big ole gulp of it! :) lol
Oh my. You may have to taper them off gradually so they don’t go through withdrawals. If they seem a bit sluggish for the first few days, you’ll know why. tee hee

P.S.
LOVE your cabinets! I have admired them MANY times in your photos! WONDEFUL!

Mix the brown sugar with just a lil’ bit of butter and it makes it even better and easier to eat.

I always eat a little dab of brown sugar when I get it out to use. I like powdered sugar too. If vanilla tasted as good as it smells I could drink it.

I think they have live traps for critters like that.

Of course, the most important part is that I could tell from the second picture that y’all used cope-and-stick joinery on the drawer fronts.

I use to snatch those chocolate stars. I loved them. My mom use to put together a xmas goodies for this older lady we rented pasture from. Well I crawl up on the deep freeze and take them off the top of the utility storage unit. Took a few times before she realized what I was doing. But dang it those things are sooo goooooddd!

Just came back over to see if you caught your little mice yet… lol
Wonder what they’d do if you put a sticky trap in there? lol

Sandra HendersonJuly 12, 2010 - 9:24 pm

Best way might to be put a FRESHLY opened, FULL bag in there…. tee hee
