There is a Hurricane named Earl on the way.
Hopefully we’ll only get rain from it but you never know with these things.

The Cotton Husband has been working particularly long hours this week trying his darndest to get the corn harvested before anything bad happens.
We thought he deserved a chocolate milkshake and a chance to see our faces earlier this afternoon.
Apparently I did not hear the ominous music playing in the background.
The combine. Sitting still.

This is where the kids yell, “ABORT MISSION MAMA!!! A-B-O-R-T MISSION!!!!”

So we threw the chocolate milkshake at his chest and sped off.
Sped being the key word.

and if only everyone could understand this about a farmer, there would be a lot less hurt feelings!!! I hate driving up and realizing things aren’t going well, there’s no rewind button to get you out of there!!
The image in my head of your kids yelling “Abort mission, mama!’, and throwing a chocolate milkshake at the CH just cracks me up! Don’t tell me the combine broke down. My fervent wish is that you only get enough rain that you need, and not have to evacuate. We here in Texas are all too familiar with that, as well…
My parents being not too far north on the Delmarva Peninsula are just as worried about this little thing called Earl too. I hope that things got running again… nothing is worse than a broken combine in the middle of harvesting!
Cabin Fever in Vermont
Reading this today made me smile. Farmers are definetly a different breed of men and thank god for them. I only wish god could control thier temper. Earlier this summer my brother had a temper tantrum while working on a peice of equipment, he flung a tool and it came back and hit him in the head. He was able to laugh at his situation later! What a man trying to earn a living as a farmer he has to be mechanic, welder, book keeper and sciencetiat with all the chemicals he uses, This only a list of a few hats he must wear, but a farmers wife the hats are to many to even begin to list.
That is never a good sign. I pray everything was fixed quickly and that this hurricane fizzles out. Blessings!
I PRAY that your husband farmer was able to get the machinery working again with minimal pain and suffering!!!!! hopefully Earl will loose strength!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! praying for that also!
Jen….I FEEL ya on this one! I know the look when farmer hubby walks through the door at 9pm…face covered in dirt, shirt soaked with sweat and dirt and grease…face looking like he has seen a ghost…”That good of a day, huh?” I say with a smile…”Oh yeah. Only about an $1000 problem that will take 2 days to fix.” Then follows the several hours on AgTalk and other sites trying to fix problem, order parts, and prepare for the next day. The show must go on!—Our lives are what the country depends on for food and fiber!
Does cotton husband engage in AgTalk?! I get made fun of for the time I spend on facebook, but this is literally just as addictive and time consuming for the farmer hubby!
