You know, some people never have gatherings at their home. And this is normal… their house stays clean and quiet and they don’t have forty bags of chips left over because they are over-buyers.
Every Labor Day weekend, we have two parties.
And eighty bags of chips are in my pantry right now.

As you might remember, we dove hunt on Labor Day. Well, the Cotton Husband does… I just concentrate on making a dent in that pile of chips.

We hang out, catch up with friends and barbecue and watch the yummy side dishes pile up in the refrigerator for later that evening.

The hunters sit in the fields all afternoon trying to snag some birds to wrap in bacon and grill …

All afternoon… lots of shooting… lots of marinating and wrapping in bacon for this:
About two bites.

I’ll just stick to the barbecue, I think.

I see in the fourth picture that the leaves are starting to turn color!…..pass the chips please
I’m afraid the leaves are just plain DEAD from lack of rain in VA.
Looks like a great time was had by all! And dear that dead bird pic is not gross.
I could hear the sound of guns all weekend. Even though I live in town, we are surrounded by fields of rice, milo and corn. So from the time I went to get the paper Saturday morning, I could hear doves losing their tiny little lives for the ‘love of the hunt’. My son, grandson and daughter-in-law were among those avid hunters.
On Monday, I cooked lunch, and while we waited for the meat to finish cooking, my son dressed the morning’s take and brought the breasts in and put them in the fridg. I don’t care for them, but his family seems to.
Sounds like you guys had a great time. Our weather sure cooperated here in NE Arkansas.
It’s alot of work for just a little meat. Same with quail. Lots of fun to shoot them though. I would eat all the chips too though!
What a fun weekend! I think your kids are THE cutest I’ve ever seen:).

chips keep great in the freezer, if we have a get to gether and have extra chips I just put them in the freezer and pull out a bag when we want some.
Dove season just opened here this past weekend as well and it was HOT. But my son-in-law and his buddies had a grand time, and maybe even shot a few birds! LOL…. Gotta love it!
It was quite fun to pick out the camouflaged hunters in the field… almost like an eye-spy game.
And we have a similar season, except its during partridge season (three more weeks!)

I’m with you, pass the chips please.
Your “Opening Day” blog looks a lot like mine. I spend days getting ready and pray the birds
are going to stay. This year was awesome. Check out my blog-especially the grill!!
