Not dirty.
Dirt.
Fresh, clean, wonderful, earthy dirt.
It’s what is in the air ‘round here these days.
And it’s what is on my floors and in my bathtub.
It’s in the couch cushions, lining the washing machine and sometimes on my pillows when a certain someone is just too danged tired for that bathtub.

I love the smell of dirt too…and I think that’s why I like black eyed peas…they kinda taste like the dirt they grew in.
No!no!n000000000
Love these pictures! I can almost SMELL that dirt! Brings back lots of memories of growing up in the country. It’s that time of year, most definitely.
Do I see a little helper w/Keith on his tractor???!!!
Can you explain what that last picture is? I only know the corn head and the bean head on our Iowa combines. What does that head? actually do? I’m always fascinated by how the machines work.
I’ve never seen this piece of equipment before. It’s quite interesting how it digs the peanuts and puts them down in their neat rows.
We do have the same problem as you right now. The air is so full of dust and smoke(we burn rice fields). I spoke with a farmer friend of mine. He has picked all his cotten and says he’s just sittin back waiting on the checks to come rollin in.
I know him well enough to know he was just teasing. He never just sits back, ever. But we have had a record cotton crop this year.
I hope you have more peanuts than you know what to do with and the price is just what you want it to be.
Wow it seems like just yesterday you were showing us the planting and now its time for the harvesting, my how time does fly.
My hubs wouldn’t dare come to bed without showering, especially since my sister bought me some of those very pretty hanky pillowcases from The Farm Chicks website.
It turns the peanuts over so that they can dry for a bit on the ground… then we pick them and dry them some MORE in the drying shed. Pics of all that to come soon!!
It is always a fascinating piece of information to tell people that peanuts grow underground, on a vine…and as The Farmer always likes to throw in there….They are a LEGUME not a NUT!
These photos are gorgeous. What time of day was this? Early evening I’m presuming since that is when we are hot and heavy into harvest around here… I really want to try to take some photos of our process as well. What time of day do you recommend for the best light? I have a Canon camera that isn’t a pro, but it’ll do for now.
How have your yields been so far? Ours have been “satisfactory”… (Is your farmer as melancholy as mine?)
Love the photos – and there is nothing like the smell of freshly plowed-up dirt!
