Aside from the mayflies… the days here in Virginia are about as good as it gets. The crops are pretty in the fields thanks to more rain that we’ve had in a while – and Keith’s hard work irrigating alllll summer long. And we’re having cool, breezy days that remind us that fall is close.
I have a November weekend planned here on the farm with some amazing girls from Girl Hearts Camera and I’ve been trying to explain to them what it’s like here…once you hit our little road and down our dirt lane… and well, you know me – I have more pictures than I have words.
Yesterday we took a long bike ride and I snapped pictures along the way to give the girls a glimpse of what they’re getting themselves into way out here with no Targets or Sonics (!) or even a Walgreens.
If they want to buy watermelon, they’re in luck!
We don’t meet too many cars on our rides but if we do they usually stop and talk for a little while. And they’re our friends and neighbors so they always slow way down and make sure our girls are safe… it’s those kinds of things that make you appreciate living here.
I love watching the cotton fields change this time of year. They start changing from deep green to orange-y red and soon the bolls will start opening.
I hope she always wants me to go on bike rides with her. She doesn’t really need to me go with her now but I’m lucky that she always wants to keep me close.
This is our friend’s house (the children call him Uncle Mick) where I’ll pick pears soon to make pear sauce and pear preserves. Hopefully they’ll last until November… I make no promises.
I wonder if my children can even make a full bike ride because they always have to “take a break” at the branch that runs through the farm. I’m pretttttyyy sure they just want to play in the water…
So for the ladies at Girl Hearts Camera… if you think you can deal with no Target and no Sonic Happy Hour and terrible internet then I can’t wait for you to get here! As far as directions go, we’re the second house on the right. You’ll have to drive a few miles to get to that second house, but I promise you… we’re the second house on the right. Just be patient!
