Yesterday, my husband and I traveled over to the far corner of my home county to spend time with good friends and to eat roasted oysters.

My mother’s family is from this part of the county and attending the oyster roast is something that my grandfather did as well as my father and brother.
Women didn’t used to attend, so I’m happy to pick up the oyster-eating slack for my female relatives.

That’s a lotta shells. And quite a few beer cups.

The oysters are roasted in long, rectangular cement block structures.

Perfection!

Buckets are picked up and people use whatever tool they can find to open up the few stubborn shells. I don’t know what my husband was using – I was far too busy eating.
Some people like Tabasco sauce, other butter and my friend Courtney tried to convince me that balsamic vinegar was right tasty. I’m not too sure on that one.

If you’ve been reading here for very long, you know that these traditions make me just about as happy as anything else in the world. Things change so quickly in our lives but it’s comforting to me that we have things like this that happen like clockwork year after year after year.

One of the things I’m most often asked about is how to navigate Photoshop.
I won’t lie – it’s not easy. My buddy Sharon and I learned the hard way – by scrounging up all the reading material and YouTube videos we could and by trial and error. LOTS of trial and error.

We like sharing what we’ve learned. And since we’re both educated as teachers, the desire to share is part of us.

We’ve held photography workshops (and have more planned – wait just a second and I’ll tell you when!) but this weekend was our first ever editing workshop.

The class is just like us – super casual and laid back. And so far the feedback we’ve gotten is amazing – I am so, so happy that we’re able to shed some light on the maze that is Photoshop and get new photographers headed in the right direction.

Here is our ENTIRE 2012 lineup of workshops… if they’re anything like previous workshops, they will sell out FAST!

My little boy woke up very late from his (much needed) nap yesterday and somehow a late nap always seems to bring the After Nap Crazy Train in a big way. That train always visits our house because we have not one, but two young children who still (thank goodness) nap.
In an effort to derail the train, I let M.K. watch Netflix on the tablet…

I love how that little bit of light shone on to his face.

And I love how the tablet – and Diego – took away the After Nap Crazy Train.
